Advanced IBD Fellowship at McMaster University

A one-year fellowship in clinical management and research of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases for physicians who have completed their core gastroenterology training.  Eligible candidates must have completed their core training in adult gastroenterology (FRCPC or equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the Province of Ontario. 

 

After completion of the fellowship, the trainee would be have the skills necessary to practice IBD in an academic faculty position, if desired.  Acquired skills could also be used for clinical care of IBD patients in a large community practice.

Advanced IBD Fellows will:  

  • Participate directly in the management of patients with IBD in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Gain experience in IBD endoscopy, including balloon dilation of strictures and chromoendoscopy

  • Be involved with design and implementation of at least one research project with the intention of publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

  • Attend and present at city-wide IBD rounds, a unique opportunity to discuss complex cases and recent articles advancing the field of IBD.
